Figures show sharp rise in divorce queries during lockdown

Figures published by Citizens Advice have revealed a sharp increase in divorce queries on its website during lockdown.

The organisation says that visits to its web page on divorce were up by a quarter on the previous year during the first weekend of September.

The figures also show that on four consecutive weekends in August and September, divorce was the most viewed page on the Citizens Advice website.

Tom MacInnes, Chief Analyst at Citizens Advice, said: “We know that this pandemic has put an enormous strain on people financially but our data shows that strain is also being felt in people’s relationships.”

September is traditionally one of the busiest periods for family lawyers along with early January.
